McKamey's Eli Fortner undergoes kidney transplant

UPDATE 5: 10.16.07: From the McKamey's website: "Let us say "Praise The Lord for what HE has done!" Hitherto the Lord has helped us! The transplant surgery for Eli and Roger went great! Eli was in the hospital in intensive care for 6 days, Roger for about 10 days. Roger had some complications from the surgery and had to stay a little longer. However, they both are home and doing great! God has given us a miracle with the transplant, and to HIM we are grateful! Both guys went back for their first check-up with the surgeon today and they both got great reports. They still have a few limitations, but they are doing really good."...Read more at the McKamey's Website.

UPDATE 4: 10.11.2007: From the McKamey's website: "Just to let everyone know Roger got to come home Wednesday from the hospital. He is doing fine. Stay tuned!"

UPDATE 3: 10.7.2007: From the McKamey's website: "Just to update you on the progress of Eli and Roger. Eli came home from the hospital on Saturday, October 6th. He is doing wonderful! We praise God for what HE has allowed with this miracle! Eli's first night at home was wonderful. He had a very good night of rest (you know how hospital stays can rest you), and he is doing remarkably well! Roger, on the other hand, is still in the hospital with some minor complications that are taking a few extra days to get through! He is doing great, however, and making progress with each day! They told us he would not bounce back as quick as Eli would! Please continue to pray for Roger and Eli as they now continue their recovery! We'll keep you posted as we know any new developments!"

UPDATE 2: 10.4.07: According to WVLT-News 8 in Knoxville, "We spoke with Fornter's mother, Connie, today. She tells us Eli has exceeded doctor's expectations following his kidney transplant yesterday. Eli is sitting up in bed as he continues to recover. Eli's father Roger, who gave him a kidney, is up and walking around."

UPDATE: 10.3.07: According to WVLT-News 8 in Knoxville, UT Medical center reports Eli is in serious condition, while his father is in stable condition.

-------------------
Eli Fortner, of the McKamey's, underwent a kidney transplant today (10.2.2007). The 13 year old son of Roger and Connie Fortner has suffered with kidney problems since he was five months old. His father, Roger Fortner, was a perfect match to be the donor for his new kidney. Both Roger and Eli are in stable condition and are in the intensive care unit at a hospital here in Knoxville.

Much of his recent ordeal has been chronicled over on the McKamey's website. You can read past news entries concerning Eli at THIS LINK.

I will update this post when more information becomes available.
